Job Description Summary
Responsible to the Student Success Coordinator (Success Scholars) for the support of coaching & mentoring current Success Scholars and peer mentors, and provide academic technology support to Lewis University students as necessary. The position is a member of the Academic Services team. The position may require flexibility in work schedule, including day, evening & weekend hours.
Responsibilities
Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration, and active support of the University's Mission in Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
-Work collaboratively with Coordinator to supervise peer mentors, when necessary -Assist with Peer Mentor training (initial and ongoing) -Assist with the Summer Scholars initiatives -Meet regularly with, provide mentorship, and assist with retention initiatives of freshmen within the Success Scholars, monitoring progress and ensuring academic success (record and summarize weekly meetings) -Work with Coordinator to design workshops and develop the associated materials, as necessary for Success Scholars and students within the program -Work with Coordinator to design technology workshops and develop the associated materials, when necessary for Lewis University students (i.e. Blackboard, Office Suite, and other academic technology applications) -Work collaboratively with Coordinator and the Academic Services Marketing Committee (ASMC) for strategic improvement and ongoing presence of Academic Services social media -Assist in appointment scheduling for students who have been identified as having academic difficulties -Assist in the follow-up with students who have not responded to initial outreach from academic support staff -Represent Academic Services/CASE at various campus events, including (but not limited to) Campus Visit Days, Summer Preview, Success Scholars Information Sessions, Future Flyer Celebrations, and Welcome Days -Promote Academic Services/CASE through classroom visits designed to introduce students to academic support services -Plan and schedule projects related to academic, retention, and persistence initiatives -Provide Academic Advising, Academic Probation, and Mid-term meetings -Serve as a Testing Proctor, as necessary -Audit website and recommend improvements -Collect and analyze academic support data -Complete projects and other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
-Currently enrolled, and maintain satisfactory progress in one of the graduate programs at Lewis University -Available to work during Academic Service's business hours or on an as-needed basis (may include evenings and weekends) -Ability to work in a team and independently based on projects and activities -Strong written and oral communication skills (including listening and conflict management) -Understand professional and ethical behaviors in the workplace -Strong organizational skills -Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
-Graduate of Lewis University, through the Success Scholars -Undergraduate Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Education -Customer service experience -Experience working with culturally diverse students -Experience teaching or delivering workshops or training -Experience with social media and/or instructional technology
Essential Duties Work hours
A minimum of 20 hours/week.
Evening and weekends may be necessary during the academic year and will be required prior to the start of the Fall semester.
Note: This GA position is for the calendar year; Summer, Fall, and Spring. This position is vital to the support all summer components (New Flyer Orientation, New Flyer Nights, Campus Visit Days, Information Sessions, training and preparing for the Success Scholars Summer Week and the actual week of programming.
