Role Overview

Fisker is building an advanced EE & software architecture for the next generation EV platforms.

The Functional Safety Engineer – Embedded Electronics will be a member of a team of FuSa experts that will support the EE & Software team by leading all ISO26262 Functional Safety activities and deliverables for the new architecture. The candidate reports to the Sr. Manager, EE Functional Safety, and works closely with the extended EE & Software team on all their Functional Safety deliverables. They will also work closely with several internal and external stakeholders including suppliers, design partners, etc., to ensure successful delivery of functionally safe features into the vehicle.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent hands-on Functional Safety expertise and a strong understanding of EE Systems & Software architectures, particularly in the EV space. They will also demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills that will help them build strong working relationships with all stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Report up to the Sr. Manager, EE Functional Safety, and take ownership of one or more hardware/software components to lead the delivery of all Functional Safety deliverables for those components.
  • Work closely with the Requirements team to analyze system & software requirements for the components you are responsible for.
  • Work closely with the Architects and Design engineers to understand the architectural and detailed designs of those components.
  • Review the system architecture, detailed designs, software architecture, sequence diagrams, etc., and investigate failure propagation.
  • Perform Gap analysis towards Functional Safety compliance.
  • Generate Safety Requirements and validation plans.
  • Construct Safety Goals, Item Definitions, and Functional Safety Concept.
  • Review, approve, and provide guidance for architecture proposals and design verification plans.
  • Work with System Engineers to develop and document system level functional safety requirements.
  • Engage with suppliers and review work products to conduct detailed functional safety analysis.
  • Lead the FMEA, FTA, DFA, FMEDA , HARA, and ASIL decomposition for vehicle functions.
  • Prepare FSR/FSC, TSR/TSC, HSI, etc.
  • Advise the Architects, Design Engineers, and Hardware/Software Development Engineers on design improvements to ensure Functional Safety.
  • Serve as a Functional Safety expert resource for architects and design engineers as well as hardware and software engineers to consult for guidance and help.
  • Drive the broader team towards continuous improvement of Functional Safety design and deliverables.
  • Keep up to date with the latest advancements in vehicle Functional Safety.
  • Support the broader team in innovating and ideating to deliver new designs and features.
  • Perform confirmation measures at System/Software and Hardware level.
  • Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical/electronic and/or communications engineering.
  • 5-10 years of hands-on hardware/software development experience in the automotive space with at least 3-5 years of that as a Functional Safety architect or engineer.
  • Expert-level knowledge and experience with ISO 26262.
  • Strong understanding of hardware and software architectures in the automotive space.
  • Experience using requirements management tools such as JAMA (preferred) or DOORS.
  • Strong understanding of automotive high-performance compute and high-speed communications systems.
  • Extensive hands-on development experience compliant with ISO 26262.
  • Experience constructing FMEA, FTA, DFA, FMEDA, HARA, and calculating ASIL classifications.
  • Hands-on working experience with hazard analysis, functional decomposition, validation, and verification.
  • Excellent written communication skills and organization to create and manage requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable with operating in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Good to have Functional Safety Tools experience – Ansys Medini, IQ-RM and PREEvision.
