This role offers the following Work Appropriately strategy:

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite up to 3 times per week .

Location: Concord, NC

GM's Motorsports IT team will analyze, define, and deliver the next generation of cutting-edge Motorsports IT software solutions. Leveraging both state of the art cloud based infrastructure and software development standards, these solutions will enable innovative interactions between GM Global Engineering, GM Motorsports, and our GM Race teams that accelerate our drivers to the finish line first! Our combined GMIT team of analysts, architects, developers, data engineers, testers, and project managers will work closely with GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams to ensure delivery of break- through technologies for NASCAR's Next Gen Cup Car!

For this developer role within General Motors, you are responsible for developing software applications using sound, repeatable, industry standard methodologies. You will work hands-on writing software or solutions, based on detailed requirements and system specifications. Additionally, your work with development activities will include:

  • Updating existing software and/or developing new software solutions to address a specific need or solve a particular business problem.

  • Contributing to all development activities in accordance with appropriate methodologies and application of a repeatable, systematic and quantifiable approach to the development process.

  • Develop your skill further by working closely with more senior developers to ensure code alignment with design patterns / frameworks.

  • Developing enterprise-grade applications using Java 11(and higher), React.js, SQL, Python, and Spring, among other tools.

  • Performance tuning, usability assessment/improvement

  • Aggressively engage in the identification / remediation of software issues related to code or solutions quality, security, and/or pattern/frameworks and software usability or end user related issues

  • Integrating software with existing software/systems

  • Knowledge in automating unit/end-to-end testing of software systems within their domain, focused on software quality and maintainability

  • Engaging in the remediation of software issues related to code/solutions quality and/or security

  • Working in a Team-based environment

  • Experience in build/release automation solutions.

  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related fields

  • Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience

  • Background in Java back end and in front end framework technologies

  • Self-starter and quick learner who understands and can adapt to existing software application and computing infrastructures

  • Extensive experience with various development methodologies (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, etc.)

  • Strong background in software/application development lifecycle

  • Strong background with programming in Java, Spring, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, CSS and Microservices.

  • Strong background in UI frameworks (React or Angular)

  • Crafting self-contained, reusable, and testable modules and components in front-end and back-end work: Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Pivotal Cloud Foundry

  • Experience with networking and client-server communication (REST, web sockets, server-sent events)

  • Understanding messaging technologies such as Akka, Kafka, Pravega, Pulsar or other streaming applications.

  • UI Design experience

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience or knowledge with some or all of the following tools would be a plus:

  • Delivering highly scalable, web-based systems, that can support high transaction volumes (Azure/AWS)

  • Ability to architect and implement scalable high availability solutions

  • Frameworks like SpringBoot

  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Artifactory, Black Duck, SonarQube, Kafka

  • Azure Cloud, Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), Kubernetes, Docker

  • Previous IT experience with Motorsport Racing
