The University's Estates and Facilities team of over 200 people provide everything needed to design, equip, run, maintain, manage and operate our buildings. Working across the entire Estate which is 250,000m2 and consists of 113 buildings, we have talented space management and development teams who create and deliver state-of-the-art buildings and refurbishments, working closely with our student and staff communities to transform the way research and education is delivered. The Facilities and Security Technician is a critical role in the Estates and Facilities team. The Estates and Facilities team offers a range of services including Estates Management and Development, Maintenance, Car Parking, Cleaning, Portering and Security. The Facilities and Security Technician works within a multi-disciplinary team of Portering and Security services reporting to a Senior Facilities and Security Technician and managed overall by a Facilities and Security Services Manager.

The Facilities and Security Services team work across the full campus and student residences covering a range of buildings including offices, commercial outlets, workshops, laboratories and lecture theatres. Duties include supervision of the Technicians, Portering staff and the Security Officers, preventing all types of crime, patrolling the campus, staffing the control room and utilising CCTV to prevent and reduce crime, providing portering services, carrying out basic maintenance and cleaning services; supporting both their own team and also the wider Estates team; ensuring buildings and property are secured, providing good customer care; car parking assistance and enforcement; helping to ensure efficiency of service and ensuring health and safety guidelines are met.

The post holder will be responsible to the Senior Facilities and Security Technician for the organisation and the supervision of the Facilities and Security Services team members within their team. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that Facilities and Security Services duties (including, but not limited to; Portering, Post/Mail, Security, driving vehicles and Accommodation support) and/or related minor projects are undertaken to the agreed timescales, Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and standards to ensure effective building/grounds usage and the safety and security of people, grounds, buildings and their contents.

The post holder must hold a full UK car driving licence.

The post holder will control and manage resources allocated to the Facilities and Security Services team, including delegated financial budgets and assist in the delivery of new initiatives to deliver business improvements supporting the team to deliver an agile, efficient, proactive and flexible service.

The working pattern is currently Monday to Friday alternating on a weekly basis across an early week and a late week as follows;

Early: 07:00 – 15:00

Late: 13:30 to 21:30

Flexibility with regards to hours of work to support business needs is required and there may be an opportunity for additional hours.
