Doctoral Researcher, Operations & Supply Chain Management

Department of Marketing and International business, unit of Operations & Supply Chain Management invites applications for the fixed term position of a Doctoral Researcher. The selected applicant is expected to start in the position as soon as possible (or according to agreement).

The position may be granted for a maximum of four years based on the stage of the applicant's doctoral dissertation and postgraduate studies.

Job description

The doctoral researcher works as part of the Maritime Business and Policy research group. The central research area of ​​the research group is the green transition of shipping, as well as the related regulation. The topic of the dissertation to be carried out in the project should therefore be closely related to the green transition of shipping, for example the emission calculation and measurement of shipping, as well as measures related to the energy efficiency of shipping, e.g. low carbon fuels.

The duties of a doctoral researcher include conducting one's own dissertation research and completing courses related to doctoral studies, as well as participating in the implementation of research projects related to the research topic of the dissertation in such a way that they support the progress of the dissertation. Possible other tasks related to doctoral education and academic qualification are negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

Requirements

According to the University of Turku rules of procedure, a person selected for the post of doctoral researcher is required to have a study right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Turku. In addition, when acquiring their degree or otherwise, they are required to have demonstrated the ability to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan.

This position is intended for a graduate student who is at the beginning of her/his doctoral studies. In this position, the study right of the Doctoral Researcher is required to be within the Doctoral Programme of Turku School of Economics, in the subject of Operations & Supply Chain Management. A good knowledge of written and spoken English is a prerequisite.

Previously demonstrated competence (previous studies, research experience, etc.) in the subject area of ​​the dissertation is considered to be an advantage for the applicant selected for the position.

If the selected applicant does not have a study right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Turku at the time of applying, they will be first hired as a Project Researcher. The selected candidate should then apply the study right to pursue a doctoral degree in the spring 2024 call for applications for study right. Salary and trial period

The salary for the post is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. The salary for a Doctoral Researcher in the beginning of employment is about 2400 – 2500 EUR per month.

The position is subject to a six (6) months trial period.
