The Department of Physical Therapy at Central Michigan University (CMU) invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month faculty position in our entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.

Preference will be given to applicants who can provide instructions in one or more of the following areas: Orthopedic, Cardiopulmonary, Neurological or General Interventions. Individuals with other areas of expertise are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will demonstrate initiative, creativity, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate. Summer teaching opportunities are available.

The prospective faculty member will have access to a motion analysis facility equipped with a 12-camera Vicon motion capture system, 3 AMTI force plates, several EMG systems, NeuroCom Balance Master, diagnostic ultrasound, and virtual reality equipment. The faculty member will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with faculty in other disciplines.

The Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy was expanded to a second location on the Campus of Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan in the Fall of 2014. Prospective faculty position will be located at the Mount Pleasant campus, but the prospective faculty member will be expected to use technology to provide synchronous learning to all students within the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach doctoral-level physical therapy courses in area of expertise.
  • Contribute to scholarship within the Physical Therapy Program in area of expertise.
  • Academic and research advising for doctoral students.
  • Maintain a standard of excellence in teaching, research, and service as outlined by the CMU Faculty Agreement and the Department of Physical Therapy Bylaws.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Terminal academic doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc in Physical Therapy or equivalent fields); doctoral candidates (ABD) will be considered.
  • Must be eligible for Michigan Physical Therapist licensure.
  • Applicants at the Assistant Professor rank must show the potential for future successful teaching and research.
  • Applicants at the Associate Professor or Professor rank must demonstrate recent successful teaching and research experience.

    About the Department

    Central Michigan University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program is one of the five academic units of the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions. The program admits 60 students annually, who are hosted at two locations: the Mt. Pleasant campus of CMU, and the auxiliary on the campus of Michigan Technological University (MTU). Instructions are provided simultaneously to both campuses through state-of-the-art synchronous technology. Both campuses have excellent facilities for education, research, and clinical practice, including dedicated classrooms and laboratories for interaction between the two sites.
