Title Director, Facilities Services

Reports To Senior Director, Site Reliability Services

The Job

The Director of Facilities Services is responsible for the overall health of critical systems across Core Scientific data centers. For each of the major systems Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls, the Director of Facilities Services is responsible for ensuring success in existing structures by evaluating and improving the reliability and performance of critical infrastructure, sustaining equipment operational availability through maintenance program design, providing ongoing technical support to the Data Center Services teams, as well as providing system reliability and maintainability feedback to the Construction and Engineering teams for future design considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the design and implementation of maintenance programs with Data Center Services and vendor partners to minimize maintenance complexity and reduce maintenance down time.
  • Design maintenance programs to maximize infrastructure operability and efficiency while minimizing life cycle costs.
  • Validate maintenance performance by analyzing trends, operational history, and maintenance data.
  • Facilitate the design of appropriate site response procedures based on potential critical system failures.
  • Partner with senior leadership, Data Center Services, Construction and Client Services to develop and execute data center infrastructure maintenance programs.
  • Establish an operational cadence to proactively identify service vulnerabilities & implement designs to remediate.
  • Work with Data Center Services and vendor partners to perform analyses of asset utilization, overall equipment effectiveness, and remaining useful life.
  • Evaluate system component upgrades as required to ensure reliability and combat obsolescence.
  • Ensure newly built facility systems meet design intent and perform without issue during the facility acceptance testing phases of new construction.
  • Develop and manage Risk Management plans that will anticipate reliability- related risks that could adversely impact data center operation.
  • Understand potential equipment failures and provide full technical support to Data Center Services and vendor partner teams in the event of a critical system failure.
  • Conceive, architect, propose, lead, and drive the deployment and implementation of infrastructure solutions.
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art equipment and systems and stays abreast of current trends in technology.

    Qualifications

  • BS Engineering preferred with a successful background in people, thought and results leadership.
  • 10+ years in Data Center Management, Facility Management or other related field.
  • Knowledgeable in critical facility engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Technical expertise in critical power and cooling systems, life safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Demonstrated success at improving availability, reliability, productivity and managing expenses.
  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure elements, including Connectivity, One Line Diagrams, HVAC, UPS, ATS, static switches and generators.
  • Demonstrated experience with disaster recovery concepts, strategies, and implementation.
  • A flawless understanding of executive-level customer incident management.
  • Ability to clearly translate complex technical information in a way that your audience will understand.
  • Ability to apply company values to execution of organizational strategy.
  • A passion for maintaining the highest standards of quality and a service- oriented attitude.
  • A self-starter who can excel in a team environment of an aggressively growing and dynamic enterprise. A nonpolitical team player who can build credibility with the leadership team and with all the IT personnel staff within the division and headquarters.
  • Understands the security implications of decisions and balances security and risk according to business needs and target.
  • Good financial and budgeting skills and understands ROI.
  • Experience aligning infrastructure expenditures with business objectives.
  • Incredible work ethic.
  • Available to travel 50% of the time.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

    Frequent and regular travel between all data centers at least 50% of the time.

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a professional office, warehouse, and data center environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, smartphones, ladders, forklifts, and scissor lifts.

    Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position. There isn't a standard workweek because work demands depend on deployments, decommissions, buildouts, and emergency situations which may include evenings and weekends as job duties demand.

    If Core Scientific determines through a factory audit or otherwise that a Supplier is not meeting the requirements and expectations set forth in these Standards, Core Scientific shall offer guidance with respect to matters requiring correction or that need improvement. Core Scientific reserves the right, however, to cancel outstanding orders, suspend future orders or terminate its relationship with the Supplier, as circumstances demand.
