About UQ
What started as Queensland's first university in 1909, with just three faculties and 83 students, has grown into university ranked in the world's top 50 that is renowned for being a leader in teaching and research.
When you join the University of Queensland, you're joining a community that actively strives toward creating change right across the world every day. From science and sustainability to health and humanities, our researchers are finding solutions to the world's biggest challenges. Our award-winning teachers are recognised for empowering our students to thrive as innovative thinkers and grow into the leaders of tomorrow.
Even after 100 years of history and excellence, we haven't forgotten that UQ was founded by – and for – the people of Queensland. In 2022, we launched the Queensland commitment as part of our belief that education and opportunity should be available for all Queenslanders by breaking down personal, financial and geographical barriers. It's this commitment that re-emphasises that UQ is a place for everybody: no matter who you are, where you're from, or what challenges you've faced, you can pursue your ambitions at UQ.
About This Opportunity
The Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology (ACWEB) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in innovative water technology and management. Our research portfolio consists of six research themes that are achieving sustainable outcomes for the water industry, protecting our water resources and critical infrastructure. We're also actively connected with industry, not only through involvements in domestic and industrial water recycling and wastewater projects, but also being dedicated to the continuing education of water professionals.
We're now seeking an internationally recognised leader to join us as our next Director and lead the forward direction of the Centre. In addition to developing and implementing a strategic vision, you'll also be responsible for the overall governance of the Centre and its operations, including research, postgraduate teaching, staff development, and financial and infrastructure management.
We know the broader water industry and its subsequent economies are facing challenges moving forward. We're therefore after a dynamic and visionary leader who understands the broader industry, not just the academic world, to ensure the centre is focused on projects with genuine impact to the community. More local to UQ, you will also encourage not only interdisciplinary collaborations, but also continue the Centre's participation in Institution- wide projects and initiatives.
As Centre Director, you will be expected to foster an inclusive and collegial culture, cultivating and empowering high-performance as well as forging productive, collaborative partnerships that deliver strategic value. Therefore, more than anything, you'll be an inspirational and consultative leader with a genuine focus on creating a diverse community where everyone can thrive.
