Job Description:

Bellarmine University Library seeks a service-oriented Digital Services Librarian to manage, promote, document, and troubleshoot the library's digital resources and systems. The Digital Services Librarian will be primarily responsible for the management of the library website, discovery system, proxy server and social media. This position will also provide research consultations and reference service, including some night and weekend shifts.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain the library's website, Springshare LibApps, EZProxy, & WMS Discovery Service. Ensure that systems remain available and interoperable.
  • Collaborate with librarians and staff as necessary to support and troubleshoot other library resources, including Digital Commons (BEPress Institutional Repository).
  • Participate in the normal activities of all librarians, including but not limited to reference work, including weekend and evening rotations, information literacy instruction, and liaison outreach to academic departments.
  • Work in conjunction with other librarians to create online educational resources, videos/tutorials, etc. and make those resources and materials accessible to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develop workflows, best practices, and documentation to manage library systems and electronic resources.
  • Work in collaboration with library staff, faculty, and students to develop, implement and assess policies, practices, and technologies designed to enhance library resources and services for discovery and sharing.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Library, Information Technology Services, and across campus on library systems and services.
  • Advise, train, and teach staff, faculty, and students in new library technologies.
  • Requirements:

  • ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent degree.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to customer service, information literacy, and support of the academic and research needs of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong collaborative skills and user-centered focus.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Relevant experience in an academic, large public, or special library.
  • Working knowledge of common software applications and the ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical users.
  • Recent experience or course work in information literacy, instruction, and research services indicating an ability to instruct students (in person & online) in the use of library resources and services.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekend and evening hours.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with relevant information technology, such as integrated library systems, open-URL link resolvers, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience working with electronic resources in an academic library setting.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, XML and other web standards.
  • Experience providing reference services in person and virtually.
  • Experience teaching information literacy.
  • Experience with library instruction design and assessment.
  • Background in Health Sciences or Business.
