Description
We are looking for a talented individual to join our team as a Die Resident Engineer. In this role your responsibilities will be of a technical nature with decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies, and standards. Your work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to root cause and follow issues to resolve. You will be responsible for equipment related to the manufacturing process. You will be required to use your independent discernment. Your responsibility may involve training others and assigning work to a small group of employees.
This role will require frequent travel between Warren, Michigan and Ontario, Canada. GM will provide hotel accommodations for this position. This position will offer the ability to work from home (WFH) with the approval of the manager from time to time.
Responsibilities :
You will analyze and implement product or machinery designs for the best method for manufacturing processes
You will propose and evaluate the processes for equipment in assigned area
Direct the design, development, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for assigned area
You will keep regular contact with partners outside the work group
You will provide direction to small group of technical employees
You may evaluate or monitor expenditures for processes and/or equipment
Employee will be responsible for all deliverables required from their assigned die shop.
Employee will be involved with engineering, design, construction, and primary tryout of stamped body panels at their assigned die shop.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to travel from Warren, Michigan to Ontario, Canada 3 weeks per month (hotel provided)
4 to 6 years of experience in tool and die
Experience working in a manufacturing environment
Knowledge of production and equipment technology for products involved
Knowledge of individual stamped components and sub-assembly integration
In depth knowledge of secondary and primary tryout events and processes
In depth knowledge of stamping press types, automation, and simulations
Understanding of weld tool systems, checking fixtures and ETACS
Broad knowledge of tool and die, die to press interface issues and stamping critical success factors
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees and elicit work output
High level of oral and written communications skills
High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering
Training such as that acquired through the completion of skilled trades program leading to journeyman status in tool and die trade
