Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) features significantly in the University's People Strategy, which alongside other institutional strategies provides a framework for a holistic approach to ED&I in the University. The ED&I team works closely with the Academic Division to address ED&I issues related to both staff and students (where applicable). One of the team's main aims is to provide support for the University's ED&I activities across all disciplines. The team collaborates with various Schools, Faculties, Departments, Non School Institutions and Colleges, to develop policies, objectives, priorities and projects in line with ED&I goals, and ensuring equity for all. This includes supporting initiatives, such as the University's Athena SWAN Charter and the Race Equality Charter.

The Role:

The Deputy Head of Equality Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) will report to the Head of ED&I and provide the ED&I Team with a strategic support function. As the Deputy, you will serve as the cornerstone of our strategic initiatives, playing a pivotal role in advancing our ED&I agenda. You will support ED&I transformational change and drive the development of policy and the mainstreaming of ED&I. This includes:

  • Leading on specific EDI Initiatives
  • Improving monitoring and performance management systems
  • Mainstreaming of EDI policy and practice across the University
  • Undertaking research and developing proposals for the consideration of the Head of ED&I and the ED&I Committee
  • Improving monitoring and performance management systems
  • Mainstreaming of EDI policy and practice across the University
  • Benchmarking
  • Identification of cutting edge developments in ED&I policy and practice and their adaption locally.

    In order to succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Extensive experience of working at a senior level on the ED&I agenda and leading transformational change in a large complex organisation.
  • Evidence of advancing equity and inclusion.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills
  • Demonstrable experience in driving positive change in the field of ED&I in a senior leadership capacity
  • Strong research and analytical skills for data informed decision making.
