Connected Ecosystem Cybersecurity Senior Manager


Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time but the general expectation is that the employee be onsite an average of three (3) days each week.

The Role:

The Connected Ecosystem Senior Manager in Product Cybersecurity establishes and maintains an enterprise-wide security program delivering industry-leading connected components, back-office, and system solutions for General Motors branded products globally. This leader ensures creation and deployment of controls for this ecosystem, and data privacy of global vehicle electrical components, systems, and architectures, with Software Defined Vehicle solutions a particular focus and growth area of critical importance.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining an enterprise-wide and globally-oriented security program to assure connected vehicle and services are protected

  • Lead organization responsible for the end-to-end security and privacy of the global vehicle connected ecosystem including in-vehicle electronic control units, telecom channel, and IT back office, inclusive of Public Key Infrastructure Systems ownership

  • Works with executive leadership to oversee the evolution and operations of an organization that is charged to protect information and cyber-physical systems

  • Establishes annual and long-range security goals, define security strategies, metrics, and reporting mechanisms

  • Creates vehicle cybersecurity connected technology roadmaps for continual program improvements

  • Partners with IT to develop, implement and administer technical security policies, standards, and controls to identify and mitigate security risk

  • Stays abreast of global regulatory activities affecting automotive industry.

  • Aligns with stakeholders to define and enforce security policy for internal systems and global joint ventures and alliance partners:

  • Access control

  • Application development security, including IT, web, mobile, and in-vehicle apps

  • Cryptography

  • Information security governance and risk management

  • Legal regulations, investigations, and compliance

  • Operations Security

  • Define security measures for in-vehicle connectivity (cellular, Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi, USB, etc.) and services such as telematics, infotainment, applications, and V2X across four continents

  • Leads the Technical Response Team in investigating security events

  • Career development of entire team (direct reports & their staff)

  • Hiring of engineering leadership positions where required

  • Performing performance reviews for direct reports

  • Domestic and International travel to other GM facilities, suppliers and industry forums

    Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or Physics

  • 8+ years of industry experience with high analytical capability

  • Demonstrated experience in IT Back-office systems required for Vehicle Connectivity

  • Demonstrated experience in defining and developing security measures in Vehicle Connectivity

  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, and can communicate at all levels of the company and across organizations (GPD, IT, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex issues to leadership, with solutions that keep the project on-time

  • Demonstrated project management skills, that lead to on-time completion of deliverables

  • Previous people-leadership role and experience growing teams

  • What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 6+ years of cybersecurity experience

  • 3+ years of collaboration and participation in industry standards bodies (e.g. SAE, ISO, ISAC, etc.)

  • Experience and demonstrated understanding of custom tool generation

  • Trained and worked within the SAFe or Agile methods Knowledge of common information security management frameworks, such as: ISO/IEC 27001, ITIL, FTC, and NIST

  • In-depth knowledge of engineering process: GVDP, Part Release (Software & Hardware).

  • Security certification such as CISSP, CISM, CISA or other similar credentials

  • CVO is included with the role, but driving is not required (level 8+):

    “A company vehicle will be provided for this role with successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Report review.”
