Dr Kotter is an academic neurosurgeon at the University of Cambridge specialising in spinal surgery. His research focus is regenerative medicine and spinal cord injury. A particular interest is degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM), the most common form of spinal cord dysfunction of adulthood. As the lead for academic spine, Dr Kotter is tasked with building a translational research program for spinal pathologies in Cambridge. Supported by the National Institute of Health Research and, a charity that promotes a common form of spinal cord injury, the clinical arm of his laboratory translates findings into clinical trials.

Mr Kotter's clinical research led to the formation of, the first charity dedicated to degenerative cervical myelopathy. was co-founded by Dr Benjamin Davies - an academic neurosurgeon and NIHR Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge. Mr Davies also has a special interest in DCM, with a research focus of clinical assessment and implementation science. Of relevance to this advert, Mr Kotter and Mr Davies co-lead the AO Spine RECODE-DCM project, the NIHR RECEDE Myelopathy Regenerative Medicine trial, and the NIHR POLYFIX DCM trial.

We are recruiting a Clinical Research Associate under the supervision of Mr Kotter and Mr Davies. This post provides an opportunity for an experienced post-doctoral researcher to manage established and emerging clinically oriented research projects, relevant to development and delivery of academic- led and commercial studies. Applicants will need to demonstrate a commitment to patient confidentiality, be equipped with knowledge and skills essential for effective research governance and to adhere at all times to the highest professional standards. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, IT proficiency at advanced user level and resourcefulness are required. An Honorary Clinical Contract will be sought from CUH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.

The post is available for 5.8 months. The successful applicant must be a registered medical practitioner permitted to practise in the UK and have completed general medical training. Whilst applications from any medical specialty and any career grade will be accepted, this post is most suited to someone with experience and/or training in neurosurgery.
