The Deputy CEO, as a member of the LIST Executive Committee, co-develops a
long-term vision and strategy for LIST, actively works in its implementation,
directs, organizes, coordinates, and monitors all related operational
processes to achieve goals and creates the framework in which LIST will be
able to grow, creating the greatest possible added value for its various
stakeholders.
In line with the LIST strategy, the Deputy CEO envisions, develops, and
implements strategies and policies aimed at building, improving, and managing
effective and streamlined valorization including IP valorization and
partnership processes, spin-off creation and a strong corporate communication.
To do so, the Deputy CEO will lead and manage a team of business developers,
valorization & transfer officers, market intelligence team, LIST ventures
including finding external investors and maintaining relationships with VC's,
business angels, equity firms and a corporate communication team.
How will you contribute?
In a matrix organisation, your role involves overseeing the acquisition and
reporting processes for contract and co-funded research projects and services.
Meanwhile, the scientific director is responsible for overseeing the
acquisition and reporting of all science and development projects and
activities within LIST, as well as providing support for their scientific
execution.
The directors will provide coaching to the Heads of Unit. In collaboration
with the Scientific Director and the Heads of Unit, the Deputy CEO actively
guides the entire life cycle of research activities at LIST
The input of the Deputy CEO into the development process of the research and
innovation activities will be from the demand side while the input from the
Scientific Director will be from the scientific side. The deputy CEO will
overview the higher TRL of the LIST research agenda.
Business Development:
Define and introduce a sound business development strategy in line with
LIST's goals, especially in terms of revenue and growth targets.
Create detailed business development plans and budgets to be deployed in
tight collaboration with all units.
Lead thorough market research to identify trends, opportunities, and
potential threats; adapt LIST's business strategies accordingly.
Identify new market, industry, partnership, or investment opportunities.
Lead negotiations for major business deals, contracts, and partnership
agreements.
Analyse and track business development metrics and KPIs to follow-up on
progress and make informed decisions.
Assess and manage business risks effectively. Plan, organize and follow up
on legal aspects to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory
requirements.
Technology transfer and research valorisation:
Manage the strategic direction and implementation of technology transfer
and valorisation initiatives.
Identify and assess innovative technologies and RDI projects to determine
their valorisation potential, intellectual property protection and market
viability.
Negotiate with the support of the Legal service licensing agreements,
contracts, and partnerships to transfer technology, facilitate
valorisation, and generate revenue. Foster collaborations with industry
partners to maximize the impact and value of LIST's RDI and intellectual
property.
Collaborate with the units to identify and create spin-offs based on
research results and innovative technologies.
Manage and oversee the entire valorisation & technology transfer policy of
LIST in consultation with the Executive Committee and other internal
bodies. Ensure compliance with intellectual property laws and regulations,
including licensing and contractual agreements.
Leadership:
Work in close coordination with the other members of the Executive
Committee and create healthy collaborative links between your team and the
rest of the organisation.
Inspire the team under your responsibility. Coach, develop, and empower
managers and employees. Lead and support talent management processes,
including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and career
development.
Excellent communicator and networker. Represent LIST in front of partners
and stakeholders. Is wired into relevant technology transfer, industry,
and business bodies and networks. Create and nurture institutional
relationships. Communicate LIST's RDI activity and results to stakeholders
and the broader community.
In your role of Deputy CEO, you will:
Collaborate with the CEO and the Executive Committee members in defining
and implementing the LIST's strategic vision and goals.
Oversee major projects and initiatives when required.
Replace the CEO in case of absence. Act as a key decision-maker during
emergencies or critical incidents, reporting in full transparency to the
Board of LIST.

You have an international reputation in the sector of public and/or private
research and innovation. You have proven management and governance skills, and
the ability to engender trust, respect, and credibility.
Your ability to envision strategies, establish priorities, and influence
others to achieve strategic goals will be highly valuable.
You demonstrated experience in building relationships with a diverse range of
internal and external constituencies, strong ability to lead high level
negotiations with public and industry partners, to influence and compromise
and the capacity for managing and leading people, enforcing accountability,
and empowering the managers and employees under their responsibility.
Additionally, you should have:
A sound knowledge of technology development, transfer, valorisation and
dissemination of innovation and research.
Relevant experience on putting in place communication and marketing plans
of research and innovation activities.
Strong analytical, critical, and strategic thinking skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal
and team-building skills.
A minimum of 15 years of experience is required, preferably in innovation-
driven or research technology organisations (experience in an RTO is a
plus), and at least 5 years of experience in senior management positions.
Finally, you should hold a PhD degree and being fluent in English and French.
Luxembourgish would be considered an advantage.
