Casual – Student Guide

Rate of Pay: NLW £11.44 per hour plus 12.07% accrued holiday per total value

Working Hours: Part-Time 15 Hours Maximum per week

Duration: 9th September 2024- 6th October 2024 (Successful applicants must be able to attend training sessions beforehand)

Availability required also: 18th January 2025- 2nd February 2025

Main duties & responsibilities:

Social Programme / Trips – Participating in; sports activities, social events, delivering presentations, walking tours on day trips, and generally helping new students feel welcome.

Welcome / Information Desk – Assisting with; campus tours and town tour, directing students where to go, checking they have the correct documents for administrative procedures, signing students up to trips, giving information on local amenities, and the Registration process (i.e. queue management and meet and greet).

Airport Pick Up / Arrivals – Meeting and greeting students and families. Helping on their journey to UH and to their accommodation. Transport to and from the airport will be provided. The role may involve physical tasks

i.e. to drag or carry heavy luggage.

Community Work/ Off and On Campus Community Projects – Supporting the running of ongoing and new projects i.e. Allotment's on College Lane, Community Garden, as well as being a student voice at our Community Forum.

Various duties and responsibilities depending on the team allocated.

Skills/Qualifications Required:

  • The ability to work unsupervised and speak confidently with empathy to support students if the need arises during a shift.
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills
  • Previous IT/Helpdesk experience is required

    Formerly recognized as Hatfield Technical College, University of Hertfordshire is a public university which was established in the year 1952. This university primarily developed its roots in aeronautical engineering. In the year 1961, it was given the status of a regional college by the Ministry of Education. The British Government granted this college the university status in the year 1992. The university has multiple research centres in various fields including health and human sciences, arts and humanities and science and technology.

    The University of Hertfordshire has two campuses, namely De Havilland and College Lane, which are spread across sprawling premises. According to the Complete University Guide 2015, it has the lowest rate of 'student relevant' crimes. The Trident Media Radio is the campus radio operated by the students. This university has a plethora of partners. Some of them are McGill University Canada, University of Okhalama and James Cook University. The university has developed many notable alumni that are doing successfully in their fields. Tony Banham is the Founder of Hong Kong War Diary Project. Helen Lederer is a famous actress and comedian. Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia, Darell Leikin graduated from the University of Hertfordshire. Chris Gubbey is Auto Executive for General Motors. Upen Patel is an acclaimed film actor and a model. BBC presenter, Kate Bellingham is a renowned alumnus of this university. In addition, it has also produced many eminent sports personalities such as Ajaz Akhtar, who is a British cricketer and Noah Cato, who is a rugby union player.
