
About The Role
We are looking to recruit an experienced Casual Senior Technician: Metalworking who works within the field of cutlery/utensil production to support students within our Fine Metals Workshop, Falmouth Campus.
Already established as a maker, you will bring a range of exciting and interesting examples you can use to explain techniques to students and bring current industry skills. This is also an excellent opportunity to gain experience in technical support and would benefit an early/mid-career practitioner.
About YouThe ideal candidate will have a background in one or more identified technical specialisms, particularly functional fine metal practice and the production of cutlery/utensils. You will also have good knowledge of health and safety and be confident and competent in demonstrating relevant processes and equipment safely to a wide range of users. You will have excellent communication skills, key to this role is the ability to engage with students. Alongside these key skills you will also have a flexible approach towards working hours.

This position will be working on a casual basis supporting students two days per week (Wednesdays and Thursdays) during term time only.

About the employer
Falmouth University is a multi-arts university in the south-west coastline of England in Cornwall. It is based across two campuses, one in Falmouth and the other in the close by town of Penryn. It was at first established in 1902 and later officially became a university in 2012. Apart from traditional fine art subjects, it currently offers degrees in advertising, architecture performance and marketing. In recent years, Falmouth has seen significant progress and investment where a new media centre has been established in 2017 covering photography and animation courses. With the association of the University of Exeter which carries out research on digital economy and sustainable, the organization has opened a library and teaching space named The Exchange. Falmouth students have recently positioned the university first in the UK for campus environment, library administrations and student welfare in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey. Its arrangement of courses covers the broadness of the creative industries, from art, design and fashion to gaming, music and film.
Students have access to proficient standard creative facilities. At Falmouth University, they work in association with various specialist institutions from the UK and around the globe. Student guides train second or third-year students from each course. Each new undergraduate student has a student coach, acting as a friendly face and point of for any inquiry they may have during their first year at Falmouth. Course facilities incorporate performance and recording studios, proficient standard photography facilities, excellent computerized manufacturing technology and a TV studio and display.
Students can personally visit the employability group at both campuses for careers advice and guidance. Support incorporates help with finding part-time work while at college, placement and internship opportunities, advice with CVs, applications, interviews, freelance work and starting a business. Falmouth additionally offers opportunities to study or work abroad as a major aspect of a degree. The Erasmus and Study Abroad Group can support students in arranging this enhancing experience.
