Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be on-site on average 3 days per week

The Role:

As a Buyer for Interior, Exterior & Thermal, You will be responsible for purchase of all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and/or services.

Responsible for actively participating in the development of commodity strategy, sourcing/negotiations, global/regional material budget execution, and collaborate with suppliers or internal partners. The work is of a complex nature involving a considerable amount of initiative, analytical work and independent judgment.

What You'll Do

  • Ability to work effectively cross functionally, both internally and externally and build relationships
  • Experience with commodities (metals, stampings, castings, plastics, resins, paint, electronics, etc.)
  • Experience handling commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance
  • Proven competence in negotiating skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • High level of analytical ability where problems can be very complex
  • Developed organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, balance multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products - Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Additional Description

    Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree OR 4+ years related working experience in lieu of degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Industrial Engineering, or related field required
  • A minimum of 2+ years relevant purchasing or supply chain experience required
  • Ability to travel at least 5% of the time, including international travel required
  • Experience developing Contracts / Agreements required
  • Comfortable working with multidisciplinary and cross-cultural teams
  • Ability to deal optimally with ambiguity and forward-thinking environment
  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Experience in electrical commodities considered highly desirable
  • Automotive industry experience
  • Knowledge of procurement software
  • Knowledge of materials management
  • Capable of interpreting market data
  • Proven knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processes
  • Ability to work globally, independent, and self-directed
