On-call shifts are offered in 4 – 7 hour durations during operational hours. Flexible availability between November 27 to January 19 , and then potential to be called in for shift coverage after this period and during the semester. Expected shift hours during rush/semester start are between 8:00 am – 7:00 pm All other shift hours during regular operational hours: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Bookstore Cashier duties will include the following: Picking and packing orders, processing web payments, and handling in-person transactions with customers while providing exceptional client-centered service on a consistent basis to all stakeholder groups.
Saturday shifts possible depending on operational needs.
After the busy period, auxiliary cashiers will be recalled on an on-call basis and availability will be requested in advance prior to upcoming busy periods.

The Role
The Bookstore Cashier performs clerical and cashier duties including receiving payments, posting and processing other miscellaneous transactions while providing exceptional client-centered service on a consistent basis to all stakeholder groups
Responsibilities
1.Receives and processes all sales, refunds, in-house charges and sponsorships. -receives, counts, documents, records cash payments and provides change; -prepares floats; -examines payment and sponsorship documents for accuracy and completeness; -fills purchase orders and distance education orders; -determines whether merchandise can be accepted for return and issues refunds or gives exchanges; -files a variety of related materials such as invoices.
2.Merchandises and protects inventory. -assists customers in locating and selecting items; -labels, stocks, organizes and merchandises inventory; -maintains a general awareness of surroundings for security purposes.
3.Performs other related duties. -responds to in-person and telephone enquiries, answering questions where able and referring as appropriate; -sorts and distributes bookstore mail.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
-Good working knowledge of the English language (written and verbal). -Minimum of one year's experience in a college bookstore or comparable computerized retail environment. -Proven ability to communicate courteously and effectively in person, in writing, and over the telephone with students, faculty, administrators, staff, and the public with a strong emphasis on customer service. -Demonstrated ability to operate a multiple category cash terminal and make change quickly and accurately; use calculators, copiers and fax machines. -General working knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting practices and procedures. -Proven ability to work with a minimum of direct supervision and under pressure, establish priorities and meet deadlines.

Douglas College, founded in the year 1970, is one of the largest public degree-granting colleges located in British Columbia, Canada. Douglas College offers degree and university courses in science and arts, programs in healthcare, business, arts, and human services. The institute boasts of two campuses, the main one in New Westminster and the other is the David Liam Campus suburban campus in Coquitlam as well as several smaller training centres in Surrey, Burnaby and Maple Ridge.
The college provides both on-campus and off-campus housing options to the students. They have an extensive library with books and DVDs, articles, research help guides for the students. There is also a Douglas Open Repository, or DOOR, that is a collection of research and creative assets of the college.
The campus also has a gym, a small box theatre and a large 300 seat proscenium theatre along with a lot of other recreational facilities. Douglas College has over 24,000 students enrolled, among which 17,000 are credit students and 8,500 continuing education students, and around 4210 are international students from 92 different countries. The academic staff consists of around 960 members.
The college offers as many as 10 bachelor's degree programs in Applied Psychology Psychiatric Nursing, Physical Education and Coaching, Business Administration, Nursing, Therapeutic, Child and Youth Care, Recreation Performing Arts, Criminology and Social Work.
