Assistant Service Professor in Law (Bar Preparation Focus)

St. Mary's University School of Law Office of Law Success invites applications for a full-time Assistant Service Professor in Law. The start date is August 1, 2023. This is a year-round, full-time, non-tenure track position. You will be hired for a two-year contract with renewal for good performance at the end of that term. Salary will range from $65,000 for a 10-month contract to $78,000 for a 12-month contract

The mission of Law Success is to ensure that St. Mary's students are successful in law school and beyond. Successful service professors are team oriented and collaborative, possess a positive mindset, are committed to excellence in teaching and academic support, and demonstrate passionate dedication to the students with whom they work. As this position is student facing and requires a campus presence, this is a limited remote work position.

For this particular role, you will primarily teach our upper-level courses, including Bar Preparation for Credit. Law Success requires a programmatic approach to teaching courses to ensure consistency between different sections of the same course and to provide a better student experience. The Service Professor hired for this position will also participate in operating our bar coaching program. This program will involve extensive student meetings, planning and execution of workshops, data tracking, and providing feedback on written work throughout the February and July bar cycles.

Service professors will, among other things, participate on committees, teach classes, and regularly meet with individual students. Law Success Service Professors teaching Bar Prep also assist with academic workshops, orientation planning and execution, and in course planning and materials for the future academic year. St. Mary's has a full-time day and online part-time evening program, and service professors will teach in either or both based on the needs of the office.

Applicants for the position must have a JD degree, a strong academic record, excellent writing skills, at least two years of recent legal work experience post-JD graduation, and either aptitude for, or experience in, teaching legal research and writing and providing academic support.

Applications can be found at https:// stmarytx.applicantpro.com/jobs/. Along with the employment application, please submit: (1) a cover letter addressing your interest in the position and how your experience would further the mission of Law Success, (2) curriculum vita, (3) an official graduate transcript confirming the Juris Doctor degree, and (4) a writing sample. The deadline for submission of applications is May 31, 2023. Applicants who proceed to the final interview round will be asked for two reference letters. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a clear background check.
