Description
The University of Mary Hardin Baylor's College of Humanities and Sciences seeks a Journalism Professor for its Department of Communication and Media Studies, beginning in late July of 2023. Persons from all academic ranks are encouraged to apply. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.
The Communication and Media Studies Department in the College of Humanities and Sciences offers undergraduate degree programs in Speech Communication, Mass Communication and Film Studies.
UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (7 miles), Waco (42 miles), Austin (60 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.
Faculty Responsibilities : Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development and student recruitment and advising; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community. While primarily a teaching institution, UMHB recognizes and rewards research, publication, and other forms of scholarly attainment.
Specific Responsibilities : Teach undergraduate courses in Communication (especially Mass Communication), Journalism, and related subjects. Full-time faculty members typically teach 12-14 hours per semester with three course preparations. In addition, this position will administer The Bells, the student newspaper of UMHB, in both print and online editions, which is factored into faculty load. Expertise in production of digital audio and video is a plus. Responsible for assessment and ongoing curricular revision to meet the changing demands of twenty-first century media specialists. This includes supporting and developing intersections and cross-listings with other programs in the division, particularly with UMHB's English, Film Studies, and Art programs.
