  • About the position

    The Alumni and Advancement Office is responsible for philanthropic fundraising and engagement with La Trobe University's alumni community (230,000 as at November 2022). The Alumni and Advancement Office is an outwardly facing unit of the University and engagement with stakeholders is a major element of most activities undertaken.

    The primary purpose of this position is to lead and grow the University's alumni engagement and communications programs. This position is responsible for setting and delivering the University's strategic approach for alumni engagement and communications. They are responsible for promoting participation and support across La Trobe's alumni community, in particular with the University's Make the Difference philanthropic campaign.

    Working closely with the Chief Advancement Officer and senior leaders across the University, they will build an engagement program that raises the University's reputation and brand position among alumni as well as delivers to the Campaign goals.

    Skills and Experience

    To be considered for this position, you will have;

  • A degree, extensive management expertise and supporting experience, or postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a complex and political environment and balance a range of priorities and expectations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to negotiate, motivate, influence and build relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and influencing senior management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and controlling budgets/resources/funding and an understanding of financial management procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience developing innovative solutions and contributing to strategic planning.
  • Possess a proven ability to deal with concepts, decisions and complex information or situations in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated management and senior leadership skills with experience in managing and leading high-performing teams to deliver on strategic outcomes.
  • Capable, agile, flexible and patient with process, and the ideas of others.
  • Substantial experience in successfully leading teams and delivering strategic outcomes in alumni relations, stakeholder relations, communications and fundraising preferably in higher education or not for profit sector.
