Job Summary

The admissions counselor will recruit potential students and assist them and their families in the areas of admissions, financial aid, scholarships and registration.

The candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds and a variety of interpersonal skills to interact appropriately in situations ranging from large meetings to individual appointments.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duty/Responsibility

  • The individual will travel extensively both in-state and out-of-state for the purpose of general student recruitment.
  • Represents the university at various off-campus events on weekends. Duties will involve the collection of contact and academic information, disbursal of recruitment material as well as answering questions and establishing a dialogue with potential students.
  • Specifically information to be disbursed will include but not limited to admissions procedures, financial aid, scholarships, unique educational opportunity programs, campus events, and general information concerning degree programs.
  • This position is also expected to provide such information and to establish professional relationships with key high school counselors and personnel.
  • Reviews prospective students applications and directs them to the appropriate sources for guidance on courses of study, financial aid, scholarships, or other information.
  • Meets with prospective students and answers questions about the university, areas of study, and opportunities for students.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of recruitment and other admissions activities and special projects
  • % of Time 50 Duty/Responsibility

    Counselor will assist in the areas of but not limited to the evaluation of high school transcripts, GPA conversion, and the maintenance of communication with applicants.

    General counseling to students and their families concerning the financial aid process, financial aid awards, and the status of individual applications for financial aid as well as providing general financial aid awareness through participation in workshops as needed.

    Position is also expected to work with the Director of Financial Aid to assist in the key, peak times.

    Assist families, students, campus offices and outside organizations with on site campus visits, which include but are not limited to campus tours, and meetings with faculty and staff.

    Counselor will assist with the Scholars of Distinction program, Discover Days, Open Houses, SAT prep program and other programs in maintaining student contact and assisting with the organization attendant with allied on campus programs.

    Education/Knowledge

    Minimum Education Bachelor's

    Required Licenses/Certification

    A bachelor's degree with general knowledge of higher education, marketing, and recruitment is required.

    A valid driver's license is required.

    Required Skills

  • Specific knowledge of college policies and procedures, college curriculum, admissions requirements, and financial aid procedures.
  • Basic computer and travel skills, knowledge of the Banner database management system or the ability to learn such quickly.
