Job Description Summary

Lewis University's Department of Music seeks an active and charismatic director for our Gospel Choir to begin fall 2023. As an adjunct instructor, the candidate will direct and develop this ensemble at Lewis University. With strong administrative support, the director will be actively engaged in and lead recruiting efforts. Salary is competitive to other adjunct positions in area. Additional classroom and applied lesson teaching opportunities will likely become available.

Gospel Choir currently rehearses from 7-8:30pm on Mondays. In addition to presenting one concert each semester, we hope this ensemble develops to become a visible, engaging musical tradition on the campus of Lewis University. The director of Gospel Choir reports directly to the chair of Department of Music.

In fall 2022, the Music Department at Lewis University launched a newly designed BA in Music Industry, which is a culturally inclusive, dynamic, and practical music program for students who are interested in pursuing a variety of rewarding careers in the music industry. Music Industry students plan their own path toward a creative career by choosing from four concentrations: Popular Music Studies, Music Business, Popular Music Performance, and Music Production and Recording.

Responsibilities

Model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.

-Teach one or more classes -Availability to hold office hours and meet with other faculty members and department chairs or directors when necessary -With administrative support, direct recruitment efforts for the Gospel Choir

-Serve as a model of professionalism and act as a resource for students within the teaching-learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree or extensive professional experience is required. Strong commitment to teaching and recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong technology skills and college teaching experience preferred.

Essential Duties Work hours

Part-time as needed; beginning fall 2023
