POSITION SUMMARY: The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to Accounting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Accounting Manager supervises staff accountants and specialists and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight closing deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, SEC and other financial reporting, payroll, quarterly auditor review, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: ● Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and reconciliations. ● Supervise the general ledger close process to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting ● Ensure that technical accounting issues are appropriately addressed ● Review and validate payroll as a back up to the Controller ● Ensure the accurate and timely reporting of all SEC financial disclosures ● Oversee property taxes, assist with income tax returns and other compliance matters ● Ensure that internal controls are in place and operating effectively ● Ensure the accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions ● Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding (be the subject matter expert) of the ERP, financial reporting and general ledger structure ● Supports budget and forecasting activities ● Monitors and analyzes department work to develop and implement more efficient workflow and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy ● Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions ● Responds to inquiries from the Controller, and other finance and firm-wide managers regarding financial results, special projects, special reporting requests and the like ● Work with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit ● Provide training to new and existing staff as needed ● Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc. ● Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff ● All other duties assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: ● CPA ● Bachelor's degree in Accounting ● 5-7 years related experience in a manufacturing environment ● Excellent critical thinking and communication skills ● Confident interacting with all levels of the organization, including C-suite executives, project teams, and department managers ● Experience leading teams and working cross-functionally / building relationships ● A positive attitude, strong work ethic and a team-oriented mindset ● Hands-on experience with ERP systems ● Successful experience working in a fast-changing and evolving organization ● High level of proficiency with Excel and other MS Office products ● Highest level of accuracy and integrity ● Strong organization and time management skills
