SUMMARY:

MCAD is seeking an Accountant. The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records; monitoring adherence to internal controls and fiscal policies; overseeing compliance and reporting for various tax filings; assisting with annual audits; overseeing compliance and reporting of various tax filings; and providing assistance and support to the Controller as needed. The Accountant must be sensitive to college needs, employee and student goodwill, and overall brand equity of MCAD as an employer and educational institution.

DETAILS: This is a full time exempt position, expected to work 35 hours a week. This position is paid $58,000 - $62,000 annually.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains accurate financial records
  • Reconciles bank statements and balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Reviews and posts activity to the general ledger.
  • Prepares monthly journal entries to record investment activity; fixed assets, capital and depreciation; lease activity; and restricted activity.
  • Analyzes unrestricted operating activity.
  • Reviews disbursements for accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Manages inventory and fixed assets.
  • Coordinates timely monthly closing with accounting staff and Controller.
  • Assesses and monitors adherence to internal controls and fiscal policies
  • Administers purchasing accounts, corporate credit cards, and merchant services.
  • Ensures documentation and approvals are appropriate for all disbursements, deposits, and journal entries.
  • Reviews credit card statements for compliance to internal controls.
  • Verifies vendor maintenance records for accuracy and tax implications.
  • Assists with annual audit preparations
  • Prepare fiscal year end journal entries.
  • Perform account analysis and year end accruals.
  • Gather documentation and assist with requests for data/information.
  • Oversees compliance and reporting for variance tax filings.
  • Reviews disbursements for accurate tax treatment.
  • Oversees annual 1099 tax reporting and filing.
  • Monitors foreign payments and files annual 1042 taxes.
  • Processes monthly sales tax payments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Controller
  • Provide backup support to Business Office Associate and General Ledger Accounting Associate.
  • Assist in the cross-training of all accounting functions and duties.
  • Assist with annual unclaimed property reports.
  • Review, develop and update procedure manuals/process maps, files, and forms.
  • Stay abreast of FASB, tax, accounts payable and higher education industry regulations and changes; assure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Represents MCAD's vision, purpose, and values in day to day work and interactions with MCAD students, staff, faculty, and campus guests, as well as the greater community.
  • Requirements

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years required.
  • 3 or more years of nonprofit fund accounting experience preferred; Higher Education experience a plus.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, data tables, etc.) and Google Suite experience.
  • Strong attention to detail; problem solving skills and technical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, excellent communication skills, and ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • ENVIRONMENT: This position operates in a professional office environment. This position requires the ability and willingness to closely partner with team members and colleagues in other departments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
