The Access Specialist assesses and determines reasonable academic and residential accommodations for students with disabilities and provides case management to students with disabilities. This position includes training and consultation with faculty and staff who work with students registered with the Center for Equal Access (CEA). Toward creating a community inclusive of students with disabilities, the Access Specialist leads the department's assessment process, grant funding efforts, and inclusive excellence efforts.

Job Type Full-Time Indicate specific days and hours to be worked. 40 Key Results/Responsibilities

  • Assess, coordinate, and implement reasonable residential and academic accommodations consistent with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and identified best practices within the field.
  • Provide training and support to faculty, staff, and students on the Center's philosophy (Social Model of Disability), policies, and procedures.
  • Provide case management and follow-up for students with disabilities and high-risk students.
  • Participate in CSS and greater community partnerships supporting the mission of The College and Center for Equal Access.
  • Lead the department's efforts to promote disability as part of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in our campus community.
  • Lead the department's assessment efforts, including data collection, predictive trends, and effectiveness in meeting outcomes.
  • Lead the department's efforts in researching, procuring, securing, and implementing grant funds to improve services to students.
  • Required Qualifications

    Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, special education, or a related field; AND one to three years of professional experience working with people with disabilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Commitment to the Social Model of Disability.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks.
  • Working knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act 1990; Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008; The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Section 504, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
  • Ability to work collaboratively to produce successful outcomes.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to five years of serving students with disabilities or related populations in higher education.
  • History of serving as a case manager or demonstrating case management skills.
  • Work experience with young adults.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or applied use of adaptive technologies and best practices.
  • Master's degree in a related field (MSW, LPCC, MEd, OT) or certifications (CRC, RESNA).
