A student employment position for up to 10-18 hours a week to serve as a resource for students with disabilities and assist with day-to-day operations in the Center for Equal Access (CEA). Job activities may include ensuring access in the classroom which may include note-taking, sighted-guide, or lab assistance. Other duties included in this position are proctoring exams in the Testing Center, captioning Youtube videos as assigned, and other office projects. This position is not a personal care attendant. This student will also serve as a Mentor in the CEA Peer Mentor Program (CEAPMP).

Job Duties

CEA Departmental Duties:

  • Provide assistance to students as indicated by The Center for Equal Access
  • Proctor exams in the Testing Center
  • Facilitate tasks and activities independently as assigned by The Center for Equal
  • Access
  • Caption YouTube videos as assigned
  • Attend team meetings and training as needed
  • Complete access agreement and accompanying FERPA training
  • Proctor exams in the Testing Center throughout the academic year – including during finals week (except when in personal finals)
  • CEA Peer Mentor Duties:

  • Schedule and coordinate meetings with students
  • Meet one on one with assigned students
  • Assist students in understanding how to access their accommodations
  • Connecting students to resources on campus and in the community
  • Periodically conduct email check-ins with assigned students
  • Meet with staff advisor (Access Specialist) for case consults
  • Complete meeting logs after scheduled meetings
  • Assist in coordinating events related to CEAPMP and disability advocacy
  • Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current CSS student registered with the Center for Equal Access
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of campus resources
  • Ability to work possible evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to perform in a diverse work environment
  • Demonstrated experience with diverse populations and/or people with disabilities
  • Interest in learning new assistive technology
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and appropriate decision-making skills
  • Ability to self-motivate and direct
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference is given to those who qualify for Federal Work study
  • History of or demonstrated ability to support fellow students through the academic year
  • Ability to have creative, problem-solving, and “out of the box” thinking
