Title Academic Specialist/Language Instructional Specialist

Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track Department IU Bloomington Hamilton Lugar School Position Summary

The Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies and its National African Language Resource Center (NALRC) seek a Language Instructional Specialist (LIS) to join the faculty at Indiana University. The LIS will devote 100% of their time to the pedagogical aspects of all NALRC projects, working with language specialists to design and develop language learning materials, to ensure that all center products conform to all proficiency guidelines and attain high pedagogical standards.

Owing to the Center's goal of producing high-quality, level-appropriate materials, such as textbooks, online courses, and activities/exercise workbooks, for learning African languages, a primary responsibility of the LIS is to provide instruction and guidance for various language content developers. The LIS will prepare sample lessons, activities, and assignments, and document the process for creating the materials.

Because the job provides instructional support to language content developers and creates workshops for language instructors, the LIS will design and construct relevant instructional materials for training sessions. Manages logistics for holding workshops and events; reserves space, schedules online meetings, manages/tracks attendance, copying materials, etc. Work with the NALRC Associate Director to recruit language instructors to participate in the projects; this also includes developing marketing material and/or planning and holding events. In consultation with the Director and Associate Director of NALRC, provides oral and written feedback to participants for pedagogical projects, using expertise to guide them in the appropriate design models. Attends meetings and conferences to present research and other aspects of the NALRC Projects.
